‘Real World' House Disturbs La Jolla Residents

Police are now stationed in the Bird Rock neighborhood to keep the peace

A police vehicle is now stationed in a La Jolla neighborhood home to a MTV "Real World" house, reports La Jolla Light.

Neighbors of the area community gathered last week to protest the disturbance caused by the popular television show’s presence. The house, located on Chelsea Drive and Crystal Street, is situated in Bird Rock community, which has a peaceful reputation.

Community members complained about noise and brought up safety concerns, according to La Jolla Light.

Ultimately, MTV hired an off-duty police officer to keep the peace along the street entrance by the Real World house. The car is there nightly until 4 a.m.

Jennifer Davies, a spokesperson from Sherri Lightner’s office, said the newly positioned police has helped.

“The situation has improved,” she said. "We're working to address the neighborhood's concerns."

Not all residents are perturbed MTV chose La Jolla to film its 28th season of "Real World."

“It’s been very smooth, their staff has been very supportive,” Jesse Adamson, senior manager of Typhoons Saloon in Pacific Beach, said.

Adamson said the cast members frequented the bar, which has helped to market the nightclub.

The cast descended on La Jolla late last month for its 28th season and will be here until Labor Day weekend. Their location has easy access to nearby Pacific Beach, where cast members are rumored to work out and socialize.
