‘Brazen' Rape Suspect Arrested

Escondido Police have arrested a 17 year old suspect for allegedly raping and robbing a 16 year old girl in Escondido on Friday morning.

Lt. Craig Carter of the Escondido Police Department said a male matching the description given by the victim was stopped while crossing the street near Washington Park in Escondido on Saturday.

"That subject was in possession of some of the stolen property from the robbery and rape," he said.

He would not elaborate on what items were in the suspect's possession.

Police had been searching for the suspect since Friday morning after a 16 year old girl was sexually assaulted and robbed at gunpoint at 8:30 am near the intersection of E. Valley Parkway and North Ash St. Carter said more police were asked to dedicate time to the case to address concern about they called a brazen act.

He stated the suspect already had a juvenile detention order for an unrelated crime, and allowed them detain him for further questioning. He now faces more serious charges.

"A count of rape, a count of robbery, a count of kidnapping and a count of terrorist threats," said Carter.

Escondido Police thanked the public for tips and information that were provided.

Carter said public safety and a 16 year old girl were their greatest concern.

"All with the understanding that we have one victim, a 16 year old victim that we'd like to give some closure to and a little piece of mind for tonight," he said.
