A fire tore through the garage of their Rancho Peñasquitos home Thursday night.
The fire happened around 10:30 p.m. at the 9500 block of Hiker Hill road, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said.
Arriving crews saw flames shooting out of the one-story duplex. The homeowner told firefighters everyone inside was able to get out safely.
Firefighters were able to confine the fire to the garage. The family van was completely destroyed in the conflagration.
