Fire Sends Smoke into the Air Near Ramona

Cal Fire crews are battling a 14-acre vegetation fire in Ramona. 

The call came in just before 11 a.m. from Old Julian Highway and Creek Hollow, officials said. 

The incident commander said the fire was moving with a moderate rate of spread in medium fuel. There was no immediate threat to any structures.

Cal Fire is calling this incident the Casner Fire. AS of 1:25 p.m., crews have the fire 25 percent contained.

An excessive heat warning is in effect for parts of the East County including Ramona, Julian and Pine Valley. 

NBC 7's weather team said the humidity in the area of the fire was at 23 percent with a temperature of 95 degrees. Winds were blowing northwest at 12 mph. 

More than two weeks ago, the 13-acre Cinnamon Fire burned in the same area, destroying one home and threatening an animal boarding facility.
