Raising Money for America's Heroes

Camp Pendleton hosted "The All Star Buddy Bowl" Saturday. It's the only annual event in the U.S. to raise money for military personnel and their families through a community-based flag football tournament that includes both physically challenged and able-bodied participants.

The 2008 All Star Buddy Bowl will benefit troops who have become disabled in the line-of-duty, as well as provide educational funds for the children of Marines who have been killed in recent conflicts.  Major David Rozelle, the first amputee to return to combat and the author of the best-selling book "Back in Action," played in this year's Buddy Bowl.

The 2008 All Star Buddy Bowl featured a wheelchair bracket and the inaugural "Little" Buddy Bowl for children ages 9-11.  The All Star Buddy Bowl provides male and female members of the U.S. Armed Forces and the local civilian community an opportunity to interact and compete in a friendly, substance-free athletic event for a worthy cause.

The All Star Buddy Bowl was played at Camp Pendleton's 11 Area football field and the Paige Field House.
