Pursuit Crash Shears Fire Hydrant

There was a wet ending to a police pursuit in University Heights on Wednesday night. A driver being chased by officers crashed into a fire hydrant, sending water about 100 feet into the air.

Officers say they tried to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation, but the driver took off.

The driver went east on El Cajon Boulevard and then turned into Florida Street, when he crashed into the hydrant just before 10 p.m, police said.

The driver allegedly tried to hide from officers, but was bitten by a police dog.

The driver and a female passenger were arrested. Police say they are possibly wanted for narcotics violations.
