Property Collapses into Neighbor's Yard

A family in Chollas Creek is dealing with a big mess left behind from the recent storms.

Mud from a neighbor’s home spilled into Stephanie Chu’s yard and pool in the 5300 block of Lea Street and she says no one seems willing to help.

"I'm concerned for my kids safety here. Right now we cannot come out to the yard," said Chu.

Her neighbor’s house was yellow tagged by the city and evacuated by firefighters on Friday. But it has been a week since the slide and Chu says she's still not sure what to do.

"Nobody can do anything you know. They just come out and look at it and say it's private property," said Chu.

She was told that the city is not responsible and her insurance company says neither are they.

"They're not going to help me with anything," said Chu. "I feel really sad. I have the responsibility for all this. It's not my fault."

While the cleanup will be a big job, her biggest concern is what happens when the next storm hits.

"What if the house was falling down? Is anybody responsible for my family’s life?” Chu asked.

The neighbors renting the property above were allowed to retrieve some of their things on Saturday but said they were not told when they might be able to return home.
