Woman Sexually Assaulted in Poway: Deputies

Investigators say the woman grabbed onto a chain link fence to try and resist the attacker

San Diego County sheriff’s deputies are on the lookout for a man who sexually assaulted a woman in Poway.

The attack occurred around 10 p.m. Monday at Vaughn and Powers Roads.

The 44-year-old woman told investigators that she was walking when a man grabbed her from behind and began to force her into a nearby drainage ditch.

Investigators say the woman grabbed onto a chain link fence to try and resist the attacker.

The man held a knife or razor to her throat and then dragged her into a gulley and sexually assaulted her, the woman told police.

The woman was finally able to kick the suspect off of her -- and the suspect took off westbound on Vaughn Rd.

The man is described as being in his 20s with short dark hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing a dirty white T-shirt and dark sweatpants.

Deputies searched the area with K9 units and a Sheriff's helicopter searched from the air for the suspect.
