Port of San Diego Hires Firm to Recruit CEO Candidates

The Port of San Diego said it hired New York executive search firm Boyden to recruit and screen candidates for the agency’s vacant president/chief executive officer position.

The job has been vacant since July when the Port Commission voted to cut its ties with former CEO Wayne Darbeau and put him on paid administrative leave until Dec. 30.

While the reason for Darbeau’s parting was never disclosed by the agency, it was reported that he had solicited a summer job for his son from port tenants. Darbeau, who was paid about $268,000 annually, had worked at the agency since 1998.

The port district appointed Harbor Police Chief John Bolduc as Acting CEO while the agency searches for a permanent replacement.

The district gave no time table about when it hopes to appoint a new CEO, but said the “search is being conducted on an expedited basis.”
