Police Intern Helps Solve Cold Case Murder

Suspect nabbed in Texas

Modern day fingerprint technology and a San Diego Police Department intern help solve a murder case from 1971.

Gerald Metcalf, 60, was arrested in Henderson County, Texas on Tuesday in connection with the slaying of Gerald Jackson.  Jackson was found dead in his Pacific Beach home in 1971.  His house had been ransacked and his car was missing.

The case remained unsolved.

In January, an intern assigned to work the case unit for San Diego Police requested a re-examination of evidence from the crime scene.  A print match was made using current forensic technology, police said.

Metcalf will be brought back to San Diego to face charges.
