Maria De Socorro Velarde Espinoza, 60, was struck and killed in a hit-and-run on Clairemont Drive on Nov. 19, 2015

San Diego Police say they've been in contact with the driver accused in a fatal hit-and-run collision Thursday in the Bay Ho community.

A Ford Fusion struck a woman in her 60s just before 9 p.m. as the woman was crossing the Clairemont Drive north of Balboa Avenue near Hiawatha Way.

San Diego Police found the suspect's car abandoned less than a mile from the collision at the end of Chippewa Court. The vehicle had front end damage, police said.

According to officials, they've been in contact with the driver described as a woman in her 20s, 5'4" to 5'5" with a ponytail. Her identity has not yet been released but officers say they expect to have a warrant for her arrest soon.

Meanwhile, San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office (ME) has now identified the victim killed in the hit-and-run collision as San Diego resident Maria De Socorro Velarde Espinoza, 60.

The ME’s report said Espinoza was crossing the street with her husband when she was struck by the hit-and-run-driver. The couple had just gotten off the bus and crossed the street, officials said.
