SDPD Homicide Unit Investigates Man's Mysterious Death in Fairmont Village

Initially, police believed the 46-year-old man had overdosed because there were no visual signs of trauma

San Diego police (SDPD) detectives are piecing together the circumstances surrounding the mysterious homicide of a man found lying on the street, semi-conscious.

Police found the man, semi-conscious but breathing, in the 3800 block of Highland, near the City Heights Weingart Library in San Diego's Fairmont Village neighborhood.

Initially, police believed the 46-year-old man had overdosed because there were no visual signs of trauma.

However, once he was taken to a local hospital, doctors discovered the man had suffered internal head trauma consistent with an attack, possibly with some type of object.

Police returned to where they had found the victim and launched a homicide investigation.

The victim is on life support and is not expected to survive. His identity has been confirmed but has yet to be released, pending notification of family. The victim was homeless and had lived in the area for some time.

Authorities will have more information on a cause and manner of death when an autopsy is performed.

Police continue to investigate and search for a possible suspect.

No further information is available.
