Police Find Shooting Victim in Crashed Car

Driver found with gun shot wound after his car hits power pole in Escondido

Police responding to a car crash into an Escondido power pole Tuesday night found the driver was suffering from a gunshot wound.

The car crashed into the pole in the 1100 block of east Mission Ave. at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Escondido Police Department.

When officers looked into the car, they found a man inside with a gunshot wound to his head. They believe the victim was shot by a male suspect about 17 or 18 years old with short, spiked hair and bloodshot eyes.

The suspect was last seen wearing a plain white t-shirt, white shoes and baggy blue pants.

Paramedics were called to the sceneand transported the victim to the hospital. His condition is not known at this time.

Police believe a passenger was in the car at the time of the shooting, but left before speaking to officers.

Witnesses said the suspect shot at the victim driving a van. After firing, the suspect fled. Police still have not located him.

SDG&E was requested to assist with the damage to the power pole.
