A man in a van committed a lewd act on a teenager on Thursday, said police, who are concerned it may not have been his first offense.
The incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of 65th Street and Akins Avenue, authorities said. A 17-year-old girl was approached by a van, and the driver, who is in his 20s, asked her for directions, then exposed himself.
The teen ran home and called police, providing them with a detailed description that they were able to use to track down a light-blue 1992 Toyota Previa minivan.
Police have not yet been able to identify the man, who they said had a fake ID card, but detectives said they are trying to determine if he is same person who committed an attempted abduction on May 18, 2009, in the 6700 block of Brooklyn Avenue.
In that incident, a 14-year-old girl was walking home from school when a man in blue van asked for directions. She told police he grabbed her arm and tried to pull her into the van, but she was able to run away.
