Suspect Crashes Car Fleeing Cops on Miramar Road

A man trying to avoid getting pulled over by a police officer lost control of his car and crashed upside down near Miramar Thursday afternoon.

San Diego police say a detective tried to stop a vehicle near Miramar Road and Carroll Road just north of Miramar Memorial Golf Course and the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

The police helicopter was overhead along with several patrol officers on the ground according to a police spokesperson.

When the suspect driver took off, he lost control and flipped the vehicle onto its roof.

San Diego Fire-Rescue responded and used a gurney to move a man from the back of the patrol car into a waiting ambulance.

Police slowly redirected traffic along Miramar Road using the westbound lanes. Even so, there was a long backup for eastbound traffic.

Miramar Road will be closed between Dowdy Road and Distribution Avenue for several hours, police advise.
