All northbound and southbound Interstate 15 lanes have been reopened near Escondido after police activity in the area, according to Caltrans.
All I-15 lanes at Via Rancho Parkway in Escondido were closed at approximately 12 p.m. Sunday, Caltrans reported. The express lanes at southbound I-15 at Via Rancho Parkway were closed shortly after.
An hour after the closure, Caltrans reopened the lanes. However, heavy backup in the area remains. Northbound traffic stalled from Escondido down to Rancho Bernardo during the closure.
One NBC 7 viewer said some had gotten out of their cars and began to play as they waited for traffic to start moving again.
No other information was immediately available.
