Pickup Truck Slams into La Mesa Building

A pickup truck crashed into a building in La Mesa early Tuesday, knocking down a tree in the process.

One woman who works in the office near the crash was very grateful everything happened before she started her work day.

β€œThat would’ve scared the daylights out of me,” said Rachel Nunez

Heartland Fire Department crews responded to Baltimore Drive at 6:15 a.m.

The driver of a pickup truck had fallen asleep at the wheel, La Mesa Police said. The man, who suffered a concussion and an injured back, told police he awakened after the crash.

His pickup truck hit a retaining wall and took down a tree. There was also some minor damage to the building.

β€œIt's pretty interesting when we pulled up,” said Cecilia Crabtree. β€œI’m going to try and focus on my work right now. I'll call people on break.”

The driver was transported to Sharp Memorial in Kearny Mesa.

Police said drugs or alcohol were not factors in the crash.
