Child Struck by Car in City Heights

Child sustained severe injuries to his leg

Medics responded to a City Heights street Monday afternoon when a young boy was hit by a car.

The 7-year-old boy was struck in the 4300 block of Altadena Avenue just before 4 p.m.

Police said the juvenile is conscious and breathing, but has a severe injury to his lower left leg. Det. Gary Hassen with the SDPD said the boy's leg may have to be amputated.

The boy was transported to Children's Hospital.

The driver is still on the scene. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved.

Altadena Avenue and Trojan Avenue were closed temporarily after the collision.

Ed. Note: An earlier version of this story reported that the boy was 5 years old, according to Hassen. A different police officer later corrected that information.
