Pedestrian Killed in Mission Valley

The transient victim was hit by multiple cars

A pedestrian was killed after being hit by at least two cars Tuesday night in Mission Valley, according to officials.

The accident happened just before 7:30 p.m. on southbound State Route 163 at Interstate 8.

The California Highway Patrol and San Diego Fire-Rescue responded to the accident. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP.

Officials said the victim was a transient in his 40s. He had apparently darted into traffic, running through the northbound lanes and into the southbound lanes.

CHP said no drivers will be cited.

“There’s nothing the motorists could have done with a pedestrian running across the freeway in these traffic conditions,” Officer John Concepcion said.

The accident prompted CHP to issue a Sig Alert. Two lanes of SR-163 South were closed for about an hour, causing a traffic slowdown.

CHP continues to investigate.
