Pedestrian Killed Crossing Street in Encinitas

A woman was killed Thursday evening crossing the street in Encinitas, a sheriff's official said.

The woman was hit around 6:30 p.m. while walking in the middle of the street on the 200 block of North El Camino Real, near Encinitas Village Shopping Center, a San Diego County sheriff's deputy told NBC 7.

She was carrying bags of recyclables at the time of the accident, which were strewn all over the street.

The driver remained on the scene until authorities arrived. The driver was not cited and released.

Deputies do not suspect alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The woman's identity has not been released.
