Man Struck by Car Dies in El Cajon

El Cajon police determined the man was not in a crosswalk when he crossed North Second Street

A man who stepped into traffic in El Cajon Tuesday night was struck and killed by an oncoming car, police said. 

The man, identified by El Cajon police as approximately 65 years old, died soon after the collision at 10:07 p.m. on N 2nd Street and E Madison Avenue.

Officers say a 32-year-old Lakeside man called police after the incident and said he was behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian.

The man said he was driving northbound on Second Street when the pedestrian crossed the street outside of a crosswalk. 

The driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision, police said. 

He was booked on multiple charges. 

The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of family.

Investigators have determined a teal-colored, 2006 4-door Dodge Charger was involved in the collision.
