Passenger Killed in Rollover

Speed and no seat belts may have caused a deadly accident in Kearny Mesa Monday.

The driver of a white BMW was driving east on Highway 52 when he hit a soft spot by the Convoy exit and lost control according to Officer Tom Stromer with the California Highway Patrol.

“He lost control, slid sideways off the roadway edge, hit the soft ice plant embankment and rolled over several times,” said Stromer.

There were four people in the car. Three of them were ejected – including a 21-year old man who was killed in the accident. Yaser Ali Sayah of El Cajon was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt according to the county medical examiner.

The other three people in the car were taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital some complaining of abdominal pain according to the CHP.

Officers believe no one in the car was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. Alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor but the driver was traveling at “an extremely high rate of speed” according to Stromer.
