Passenger Describes Crash as “Movie Scene”

Despite the major damage to both vehicles, no one was seriously hurt

Crews had to rescue two people trapped in a truck after the vehicle flipped onto its side Tuesday night.

The accident happened just before 8:30 p.m. on Imperial Avenue and 47th Street in Lincoln Park.

Esteban Ibarra was riding in the truck, a Ford Ranger, when the crash happened. Ibarra walked away from the accident.

“It was kind of freaky scary. I’ve never been in that kind of thing,” he said.

According to Ibarra, he and his friend, the driver, were in the turning lane and had just gotten the green arrow. That’s when the other car crashed into them, he said.

The SUV flipped onto its side, trapping Ibarra and the driver. Ibarra said rescue crews had to remove the windshield to get them out.

“It was a total movie scene kind of,” Ibarra said.

Despite the major damage to both vehicles, no one was seriously hurt in the accident. The driver of the car had minor cuts and scrapes; Ibarra and his friend weren't hurt.

No one was cited in the crash, according to police. Officials say alcohol and drugs were not factors.
