Part of Exelis' $91.7M Defense Contract in San Diego

The Defense Department recently awarded Exelis Inc. a $91.7 million contract modification, exercising an option to build and deliver 42 signal-jamming systems for U.S. Navy F/A-18 fighter aircraft.

Some 11 percent of the work will be performed in San Diego. Large amounts of work will be performed in Clifton, N.J. — the company’s home base — as well as San Jose. Work will continue through November 2016, according to a March 13 announcement from the Defense Department.

The F/A-18 pilot uses the electronics to protect the aircraft against surface-to-air and air-to-air missiles.

Exelis (NYSE: XLS) was previously the defense business of ITT, which split into three in 2011.
