Parents Shocked By Brazen Molester

Parents at Balboa Park were shocked to hear that a 4-year-old girl was abducted and molested near the Natural History Museum.

"It's very unbelievable because you think you're safe in this beautiful park, and to hear something like that, it's shocking," Desiree Villalpando said.

Villalpando and other parents who bring their children to Balboa Park are deeply concerned.

"It's terrible because he's still out there,"said Hilary Bilobeau.

Detectives said the molestation took place in the parking lot adjacent to the Natural History Museum on Sunday at about 3 p.m. Surveillance cameras around the museum didn't provide any video of the suspect. Investigators are hoping park visitors who were taking pictures or shooting video in the area might provide some clues.  They're asking those people to check their cameras for any images of the suspect or the victim.

"[The victim] was wearing a white T-shirt, lavender sweat pants," Lt. Rick O'Hanlon said. "She has shoulder-length, curly, light-brown hair," said Lt. Rick O'Hanlon.

The molester is believed to be a white man who is about 55 years old. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 180 pounds and has white hair. He was wearing eyeglasses, a green windbreaker, tan pants and a hat at the time of the attack.

Anyone with information about the case is being urged to call the police at 619-531-2260 or CrimeStoppers at 888-580-8477.
