Padres Spring Training: Healthy Alonso Expects Big Year

First baseman says he's healthy and motivated

When the Padres were in their crazy, freewheeling player acquisition mode, they made a move at every position except one: First base.

Yonder Alonso has right of first refusal on that spot. Tommy Medica is in the mix and Carlos Quentin is learning the position, but Alonso is the guy who gets the first crack at it.

In 2013, he missed time after getting hit on the hand with a pitch and wasn't the same for the rest of the season.

In 2014, he suffered a forearm injury and only played 84 games.

So, this off-season, he changed things up a bit to stay healthy and fit in to a lineup that suddenly looks like one of the best in the National League. NBC 7's Derek Togerson talked to him about avoiding injuries, the new clubhouse, and where he found a little extra motivation.
