Padres Reach 77 Wins

Snap Streak Of Being 10 Games Under .500

In 2011 and 2012, the Padres finished with 76 wins. Actually, the Padres had finished with 76 wins in four of the previous 14 seasons.

So, when they beat the Giants 4-1 behind a gem by Ian Kennedy on Friday night in San Francisco, there was a bit of a reason to celebrate.

The Friars earned their 77th win of 2014, meaning they will not be an even 10 games under .500 for the third straight year.

Seth Smith and Rene Rivera had big hits in a 3-run 7th inning that gave Kennedy all the cushion he needed. Ian threw 7.0 innings, striking out six while only allowing one unearned run.

Ian also went over the 200 innings pitched mark, the third time he's done that in his career. Kennedy is the first Padres right-handed pitcher to throw 200 innings since Jake Peavy in 2007.

The Padres can get ambitious and go for their 78th win on Saturday afternoon at AT&T Park.
