Padres Pound Astros Again

For the second straight game the Padres scored eight runs en route to another victory over Houston.

Yonder Alonzo has a penchant for hitting doubles. He doubled twice against the Astros on Wednesday to give him 23 on the season. Alonzo has hit two or more doubles a franchise record seven times in 2012 to surpass both Tony Gwynn and Adrian Gonzalez who each had six.

Alonzo's one out double in the fourth inning scored two runs and broke the game open. The five run fourth gave starting pitcher Clayton Richard some breathing room. He needed it. Richard gave up two home runs, both to Matt Downs. The lefty limited the damage, though. He pitched into the ninth inning before handing the ball to Bud Black.

Huston Street got the save, his 15th in fifteen tries. The Padres beat the Astros 8-4. They finish off the four game series Thursday night at PETCO Park.
