Padres Outslugged in L.A.

Dodgers Pound 8 Extra-Base Hits In Win

Friday night in Los Angeles, the Padres only had two fewer hits and baserunners than the Dodgers. But the variety of the hits they had were not the kind that typically help you win baseball games.

Nine of San Diego's 11 hits were singles. Eight of L.A.'s 13 hits were for extra bases, including a pair of Adrian Gonzalez home runs.

When you have quantity AND quality, you're probably going to have a pretty good shot at winning a ballgame, which is exactly what the Dodgers did, 9-2.

It was actually close until the 7th inning, when Gonzalez hit the second of his long balls as part of a 5-run Dodgers rally.

The former Padre has hit 19 home runs this season. Six of them have come against his home town team.

San Diego starter Eric Stults labored through 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. The Dodgers did their 7th inning damage against Anthony Bass, who gave up all five of L.A.'s runs.

On Saturday, the Padres send Andrew Cashner to the mound against Chris Capuano.
