As hot as the Padres were (winners of 10 out of 11 games) sometimes a team just has an off night. Or, runs into a pitcher in a groove. Or, both.

The Padres got hammered 9-1 in Colorado on Saturday night. Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin allowed one run (on a Will Venable solo home run) in 7 innings while Padres starter Edinson Volquez got roughed up, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits in 4.2 innings.

San Diego can still win the series at Coors Field. Sunday afternoon, Casey Kelly makes his 2nd big league start. Kelly set the bar fairly high for himself.

In his MLB debut on Monday, the 22-year-old tossed 6 shutout innings to beat the Braves.

Colorado counters with lefty Jeff Francis, who's allowing more than 6 runs a gain at home this season.

The Padres made a pair of roster moves on Saturday, activating pitchers Andrew Cashner and Joe Thatcher from the disabled list. Bud Black will decide in the next few days how he wants to work Cashner back in to the starting rotation.
