Red Hot Padres Sweep Diamondbacks

Seven wins in a row for the Friars.

During their seven game winning streak the Padres are doing the big things and the little things.

A defensive gem turned the game around. In the bottom of the eighth inning with the Padres lead down to a run, shortstop Everth Cabrera made a fantastic dive and throw to get a key out. Earlier in the game Alexi Amarista flashed some leather to bail starter Edinson Volquez out of a jam. Volquez (9-9) settled down after a shaky start to pitch seven solid innings and notch his ninth win.

Offensively Will Venable, Chase Headley and Yonder Alonzo all collected two hits. Luke Gregerson notched his first save of the season, retiring the last four batters he faced. The 5-4 victory extended the Friars longest winning streak of the season and made it six straight over Arizona.

The Padres return home for a three game series against the Braves starting Monday.
