Pacific Records to Craft Anthem for San Diego Gulls

The San Diego Gulls, the minor league hockey team affiliated with the Anaheim Ducks, is one step closer to its fall debut as local label Pacific Records on Wednesday said it would create the team’s official anthem.

The label said the theme would be produced and performed by Pacific Records staff and artists, and the company would tweak the song for specific events and matchups. A mix tape of all versions of the theme will eventually be up for sale.

“We are very excited to work alongside the San Diego Gulls and aid in enhancing the fan experience,” Pacific Records founder Brian Witkin said. “The anthem will provide fans with a unique and custom theme song they can truly call their own.”

The Ducks announced in January they were bringing professional hockey back to San Diego with the pickup of the Norfolk (Va.) Admirals of the American Hockey League. The relocation to San Diego is part of the AHL’s plan to create a Pacific Division in California. Farm teams tied to the Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks are all moving to the state for the upcoming season.

The San Diego Gulls name dates back to 1966 and has seen several incarnations since. The most recent Gulls team ended its run at the Sports Center in 2006. The new team will play at the Valley View Casino Center.
