Police believe a Boy Scout who died in a camp shooting brought the gun from home.

A 12-year-old boy was found shot to death Monday at a summer camp on Fiesta Island. The Boy Scout was visiting with a troop from Las Vegas.

Police believe the handgun found at the scene will be traced to Las Vegas and that the boy brought the gun to camp himself, according to a statement from SDPD. Police also said the gun was unregistered.

Police initially reported that the 12-year-old shot himself in the head. However, investigators later said the boy was hit in the torso and it was unclear how many times he had been shot.
