Overturned SUV Causes EB I-8 to Briefly Shut Down in El Cajon

An overturned vehicle caused a five-car pile-up and a brief closure of eastbound Interstate 8 in El Cajon on Friday, the California Highway Patrol said.

The accident happened around 3:45 p.m. when an SUV flipped in the middle lane of I-8 near the North Second Street exit, according to the CHP.

The accident caused a five-car pile-up and officers were diverting traffic on to North Second Street.

A Sigalert was issued at 3:55 p.m. but was lifted about 30 minutes later, the CHP said.

The people in the SUV suffered minor injuries, the CHP said.

It was unclear what caused the accident.
