Online Betting is a Gamble

Authorities say they are investigating five Internet cafes in San Diego and one in Oceanside as possible fronts for illegal gambling.

The five businesses were raided Wednesday and 31 gaming devices as well as more than $11,000 were seized. No arrests have yet been made.

Police say it's against state law to have gambling machines. Authorities say players pay cash to the cafes to get credit on a card, then use it to gamble on computer servers. They will cash in winning tickets at the front counter.

The investigation was spurred by citizen complaints earlier this year.
