One Person Trapped After Crash in University City

One man was trapped in his vehicle after crashing into a light pole in University City Monday night, the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) confirmed.

The crash occurred around 10:08 p.m. on Centurion Square and Genesee Avenue., near University City high school. Upon hitting the light pole, the car split into two pieces.

The driver was extricated and taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with a broken femur. According to SDPD, he is expected to survive his injuries.

Witnesses told NBC 7 they saw two cars driving at a high rate of speed at Nobel Drive and Genesee Avenue. When they got down to Centurion Square, they saw a car cut in half by light pole with the driver trapped inside.

Police are investigating the collision as a possible DUI case.
