One Killed in Southcrest Shooting

The shooting happened just before 9:30 p.m. Friday

One man is dead after a shooting in Southcrest Friday night, according to police.

Police said the fatal shooting happened just before 9:30 p.m. at a parking lot near a taco shop at 38th Street and National Avenue.

Medics were requested to the scene for a single patient who had sustained gunshot wounds to the chest, authorities said.

Police confirmed the patient died a short time later.

According to investigators, the victim was talking on a payphone on the south side of National Avenue when two male suspects approached and shot him.

The suspects fled on foot.

Witnesses told police that the suspects were two Hispanic males wearing dark long pants and white or gray shirts.

Preliminary reports by officials also said a suspect vehicle described as a lowered, dark green Nissan or Honda with chrome wheels was spotted near the scene.

On Sunday, authorities identified the victim of the shooting as 28-year-old Adolfo Maytorena.
