Woman Dies in Crash With Concrete Wall in Escondido

The victim was alone when she slammed her Nissan Juke into a barrier wall near an off-ramp on State Route 78 and Nordahl Road

A woman was killed Friday night when she rammed her car into a concrete barrier wall off State Route 78 in Escondido, police confirmed.

The deadly crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. as a 40-year-old Escondido resident exited the off-ramp to eastbound SR-78. Escondido Police Department (EPD) Lt. Mike Kearney said witnesses told investigators that the driver, for unknown reasons, drifted across the intersection at Nordahl Road and struck a barrier wall at high speed.

The woman, who was alone in her car, suffered major injuries and died at the scene. Her name was not immediately released.

The investigation is ongoing but, at this point, police do not believe alcohol or drug impairment were factors. Anyone with information on this case can call the EPD’s tip line at (760) 743-8477.
