One Injured in Suspected DUI Fiery Head-On Crash

One person was injured Thursday by a suspected drunken driver in a fiery head-on collision in Point Loma, police said.

The crash happened around 12:45 p.m. in the 3600 block of Midway Drive, near the Valley View Casino Center, when a white sedan collided with a black SUV, San Diego police Officer Billy Hernandez said.

After the collision, the two cars caught on fire, he said.

The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The white sedan matched the description of the car involved a hit-and-run earlier in Pacific Beach where a driver hit a parked car, but it's clear if it was the same driver, Hernandez said.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert shortly after 1 p.m. at Sports Arena Boulevard and westbound Interstate 8 onramp because of a ramp delay related to the crash.
