One Injured in Spring Valley Apt Fire

Video captured by a nearby resident shows the chaos that broke out when fire tore through a Spring Valley apartment early Monday.

Flames can be seen in the YouTube video clips provided by a neighbor in the complex in the 3000-block of Charwood Ct.

The fire started when one of the residents tried to start a fire in the fireplace. Investigators said when the resident struck the lighter, there was a swift explosion and a nearby area rug caught fire. When the resident tried to throw the rug out on the balcony, firefighters said it hit one of the other residents in the leg causing severe burns.

Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to one unit in the building, according to San Miguel fire officials. The Sheriff's Arson/Bomb team will investigate the cause of the fire.
