One Day Only: Famed ‘Boat” House Open To Public

Some Encinitas residents have long been curious as to what the city's famous "boat" houses look like on the inside. This weekend, you can get the chance to find out.

On Saturday, one of the two "boats" will be open for public tours. The tour starts at 10 a.m., lasts until 4 p.m. and costs $10 per person, $20 per family. You can park in the Moonlight Beach public lot or the Coaster train station in downtown Encinitas.

"This is a one-time opportunity," organizer Peder Norby told the North County Times. "This is something that probably won't happen again for many, many years."

The "boat" house, the "S.S. Moonlight" is actually going to available to rent. The Encinitas Preservation Association will select the new tenants after fixing it up. Rent is a little less than $2,000 a month. Call (760) 436-7171 for more information.
