An on-duty lifeguard suffered a serious injury when performing a rescue in La Jolla, officials confirmed to NBC7.
The lifeguard was in the water and hit by a wave at Windansea Beach at approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday, said San Diego Lifeguards Lt. James Gartland.
Officials said they were not able to talk about the type of injuries the lifeguard sustained due to regulations.
The lifeguard was taken to ICU at UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest.
He is expected to be okay but is still in serious condition.
