Officers, Bolts Players Deliver Teddy Bears to Rady Children

Kids at Rady Children’s Hospital were treated both to fluffy teddy bears on Tuesday and a visit from several San Diego Chargers players and local police officers.

About 100 officers and eight Bolts players arrived at the hospital on Tuesday morning to deliver the stuffed animals. Santa Claus himself also arrived by sleigh.

It’s the 25th year stuffed animals have been delivered to the hospital, a tradition started by the Coronado Police Officer Officer Brian Hardy.

In 1990, he delivered a single car load of teddy bears to the hospital for young patients spending the holidays there. Since then, it’s expanded.

Among the Chargers there, safety Darrell Stuckey was on hand to chat with some of the patients and pose for photos.

He said he enjoys helping out with the stuffed animal delivery each year.

“For a moment, you can distract them from what’s going on,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity to bring that joy.

It was a larger turnout by Chargers players than previous years.

"No matter where you are, what party of the city you're in, everybody knows what season it is," Stucky said. "And that is the season of giving.”
