Officer Punched by Suspect

SDPD said that officer required no medical assistance

A San Diego Police officer was assaulted in Allied Gardens on Monday morning, according to officials.

A man was seen tampering with vehicles at 5200 block of Fontaine Street, when an officer spotted the suspect and ran after him. The suspect then punched the officer in the jaw.

The man then jumped into a 1994 Ford driven by a female accomplice, and drove away. A short time later the car was found on Alfred Court with the suspect still in the vehicle.

The man fled on foot from the scene, but ended up running toward the officer he punched earlier. That officer then made the arrest.

SDPD said that officer required no medical assistance.

The suspect will be charged with felony battery of a peace officer, according to Detective Gary Hassen.
