Oceanside Police Department Lobby Evacuated Due to Suspicious Item

Officials evacuated part of the Oceanside Police headquarters after someone dropped off a potentially dangerous item Thursday.

A resident found a tripflare and decided to drop it off at the Oceanside Police lobby, at 3855 Mission Avenue, for safekeeping. Police said the person did not know what the device was.

Tripflares, commonly used by the military in the Vietnam War, are made of tripwire linked to flares. .

Oceanside police said this device did not have a pin in it, so officers decided to evacuate part of the building until it was deemed safe.

Employees are being allowed back into the headquarters, but they have been told to avoid the lobby.
