Woman Found Dead Near Ocean Beach Pier ID'd

Officials said the young woman was badly decomposed and had likely been in the water for at least a day, if not longer

A woman whose body was found by beachgoers near Ocean Beach Pier last week has now been identified by officials.

According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, the body was that of 20-year-old Victoria Zubkis.

Officials said a group of beach visitors spotted the lifeless woman on the evening of May 28 and called 911. Firefighters and lifeguards found Zubkis floating in the water about 100 yards west of the OB Pier and brought her body to shore.

Officials said the young woman was badly decomposed and had likely been in the water for at least a day, if not longer. At this time, the Medical Examiner has not reached conclusions on Zubkis’ cause or manner of death.

San Diego Police Department Lt. Paul Rorrison said the death is not being investigated as a homicide at this time.

"We have no indication at all regarding foul play. There was no trauma to the body which would have been the result of violence or weapons," Lt. Rorrison told NBC 7. "The cause of death is undetermined due to the severe decomposition of the body."

The lieutenant said the Medical Examiner will try and obtain toxicology tests on Zubkis, but that process will take several weeks.
