New Year's Day Killing Suspect at Large

A man accused of killing his wife in front of two children on New Year’s Day in Oceanside remained at large on Sunday.

Dontaye Henderson, 28, an active parolee, shot and killed Tamara Henderson, 25, just after 11 a.m. on Saturday, according to Oceanside police.

A two-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl were inside the victim’s apartment in the 2300 block of Paseo De Laura at the time of the shooting, police said. They were not hurt.

At first police thought Henderson had fled to a nearby hotel, where stunned guests were evacuated.

“We came out of the building and the officers were all standing with guns ready to shoot somebody. They told us there was somebody hiding in the hotel that has shot and killed somebody and they're trying to find him,” said hotel guest Inez Gutierrrez.

The suspect is believed to be with 24-year old Consuelo Ramirez (pictured above) and may be traveling in a green Toyota Corolla.
