New Whooping Cough Case Reported in San Diego

Compared to the 2010 numbers, the county is seeing fewer cases of pertussis according to county health officials.

San Diego County Health officials are reporting a new case of whooping cough bringing the total number of cases to 426 for 2011.

County Health and Human Services Agency officials say a five-year-old child at Kate Sessions Elementary School was diagnosed with pertussis.

The child was up-to-date with immunizations.

Health officials say this case is not the year-end total for pertussis in 2011because more cases from last year may get reported through the month of January.
