Video Confirms Final Location for Aegean Wreck

Video of debris from the boat shows where the boat's final location was.

New video is out confirming the final location of the Aegean sail boat that crashed mysteriously during a race last spring, leaving four dead.

“All the fiber glass had been broken, the biggest piece we found was 5 feet long and the engine sat detached from the sail boat,” said Ed Harris, an off-duty lifeguard.

The recent video proves that the boat hit the North Coronado Island in the middle of the night due to the remnants left in the area but the big question is: Why?

“We’ll never know the status of the crew but we do know the vessel struck the island in the middle of the night. Four sailors perished. Why it struck the island or what they were doing we’ll never know,” said Russell Moore, boat captain for Xplore Offshore.

Moore and Harris are volunteers on this case hoping to find answers to a tragedy they call a mystery. The sailboat was in a race heading from Newport Beach to Ensenada when it crashed for an unknown reason killing all four on board.

In the beginning of the search, the weather was too rough in the area to find anything. In the last week, the two could see that the boat had broken down more and was leaving a trail from the wreck site.

The video is going to be given to the Coast Guards as more evidence in their investigation. And while the real reason for the crash may forever remain a mystery, they hope this brings some answers to the families.

“It’s a sad thing," said Harris." Four people lost their lives and I think families would like to know what happened to give them closure."
