Oh Baby: Tot Lot Set to Open

The Tot Lot will serve more than 3,000 children each year

The ground-breaking ceremony for the new Tot Lot was held at San Diego's Martin Luther King Jr. Community Park on Monday.

Councilman Tony Young, Mayor Jerry Sanders and residents of the city's Fourth District hosted the event at 6401 Skyline Drive.

“It’s a great investment to our kids,” Young said. “Our kids deserve the same things that every other kid deserves throughout the city.”

More than $600,000 will be invested in the new Tot Lot, which will serve more than 3,000 children a year.

Current activities at the park, which was built in 1986, include swimming, racquetball, basketball and tennis. It is also hosts the Valencia Park Youth Football Association and the annual Spring Egg Hunt.
